What is a Combo Chain?
Combo Chain helps the Fleet defeat the Boss by gaining beneficial buffs through joint efforts from participating Fleet members.
To access the Combo Chain, tap “View Combo”
Before diving in, let’s review the elements seen in the Combo Chain view.
Node - a node is the little blue indicator of a missing piece in a Combo Chain. Unlocking each node will not provide you an individual buff or reward but it does provide a fleet-wide buff which can be re-roll individually.
Visible Traits - these are the revealed traits displayed in the game.
Hidden Traits - these are the traits that are replaced by a ? There could be more than one hidden trait in a node.
Possible Traits - The list includes all the traits that need to be guessed. Once a Hidden Trait has been discovered, it will be grayed-out from the list of Possible Traits. The number of traits you can find here can vary.
Combo effect - an icon symbolizing the effect and description of the combo buff that will be granted once all nodes have been unlocked.
How to activate a Combo Chain?
To activate a Combo Chain effect, ALL nodes must be unlocked.
How to unlock a node?
A node will always consist of at least 1 Visible Trait and up to 3 Hidden Traits. To unlock a node, you are required to find the correct trait combination through repeated experiments in the attack. Nodes are not tied to a specific crew but to the combination of Visible and Hidden Traits.
How to identify which crew to use for a node?
There are two ways that can help you select a crew to test in an attack:
- Via Menu “Select Crew”
- Via Crew Retrieval
- Via Menu “Select Crew”
In order to help you select a suitable crew, tap one of the nodes. The menu “Select Crew” will show your crew members and their traits. These crew members match the Visible Trait and 1 or more of the Possible traits.
In the example above, tapping the Mylean and Resourceful node opens the Select Crew panel.
There is only 1 crew in the“Select Crew” panel, this does not indicate that this is the ONLY suitable crew to unlock a node. It only indicates that there is only 1 owned crew that has a combination of Mylean +1 or more of the Possible Traits.
- Via Crew Retrieval
Another way to find and identify a crew, is to use the comprehensive crew details that can be found in the Crew Retrieval Interface.
Tick the Show Unowned polestars to start finding a crew with qualifying traits.
From the same scenario above, select Mylean and Resourceful polestars.
After selecting the relevant polestars, you may begin testing each crew in an attack.
Please note that you won’t be able to see the exclusive crew or crew not available in the Time Portal which may be qualified as well.
After Selecting a Crew to test:
After choosing a crew, you need to use them in an attack to verify if the crew you selected matches the combination of the traits in a node.
Any crew (of the correct rarity for the battle) that has all the qualifying traits is eligible to potentially unlock a node. If you own an exclusive/limited crew that has the combination of traits and of the correct rarity, it will be eligible to unlock the node as well.
From the same example, Neelix was selected and used in an attack. The crew matches the combination of traits: Mylean (Visible Trait) + Resourceful and Survivalist (Hidden Traits)
Thus, all question marks in the node are replaced with the discovered traits (i.e Resourceful and Survivalist).
These discovered traits will be grayed-out from the Possible Traits.
Traits can be listed twice if there is more than one node that might require it.
The name of the player will be displayed in the unlocked node together with the avatar of the crew that was used.
In some cases, a fleet member can unlock multiple nodes with just one crew and one attack.
Example:
This happens when the trait combinations from these multiple nodes match the traits of the crew used in an attack.
What does a node color mean?
Blue node - the node is locked.
Orange node - You have selected a crew but have not yet used in an attack or have used a crew in an attack but were not able to unlock the node. This color indication lets you know the crew in place is selected or used in an attack.
Green node - The crew used in an attack was able to unlock the node. It should also show a badge of the Captain who unlocked it.
